Subjects

Math:  We are now looking at number theory which includes place value, comparing, and reading numbers.   "Math is the science of patterns."
Reading:   We continue with Reading A to Z and practice independent reading and reading out loud.
Several students receive reading support outside the classroom for an hour 3 days a week.  I've starting different spelling groups and teaching students spelling and word patterns throughout the year.
Writing:   My focus continues to be on sentences and we have studied nouns and verbs and are currently focusing on adjectives.  Students are learning how to edit their written work.  I'll be taking them to the lab to practice keyboarding online so that they can type their written work efficiently.
Tech: We're in the lab now and students will be learning to use GAFE (Google apps for education.)  This involves word processing, tables, and powerpoints.  I plan to teach them lessons in these areas for the next few weeks.  We'll also start looking at doing some coding online.
Social Studies:  Our focus is mapping and we've started by looking at maps of the world and now we are studying Canada.
Art:   We continue to explore patterns but we will also be starting to look at specific drawing skills using pencils.
PE:    In PE we are focusing basic coordination and movement skills for the first few weeks.  In dance we will learn the Virginia Reel and then do some other square dance songs.  We performed Thriller on Halloween and the class really enjoyed performing for the school.
French:   In French students are learning greetings, numbers, and days of the week.
