April 7, 2019
On Friday, April 26 we will be having a class sleepover! There will be lots of activities and fun for the students including workshops, games, pizza, and a movie. I've sent home the first notice with some details and have asked for parents to volunteer to do a workshop for a small group of students either at 4:00 or 6:30. Let me know if you have any questions.
On Tuesday the girls' basketball team hosts SSE at noon and on Thursday the boys' plus some girls' basketball team plays SSE at Fulford in the gym at noon. Come by and watch one of the games if you have a chance. It will be a lot of fun!
Subjects
Math: Our focus in math for the next few weeks is measurement. We start with linear measurement: mm, cm, m, and km. Then we'll look at perimeter, area, and volume.
Reading: We are nearly finished The Rats of NIMH and students will be choosing a project to complete about the novel. We also continue with script reading.
Writing: Students are working on a major fiction story in writing time. We have talked about different genres of writing and I've read several examples to them. The have used a story map to plan their story and have been to write their own "chapter book". It will take a few weeks to write, edit, and publish.
Tech: Students will soon be using Mindstorms robotics in class. In this project they build an advanced Lego robot and learn to code it. It's lots of fun and challenging!
