Feb. 18, 2019

I hope you had a fun Family Day.  It has been a strange couple of weeks with the crazy, snowy weather and the missed days at school.  I hope everything will be back to normal this week.  Basketball practice is on at lunch Wednesdays for the boys and Thursdays for the girls.  We have a new student to welcome to class--Aiden Brown.  He seems to be fitting in well and making friends with his classmates.

Subjects

Math:  I'm trying to finish multiplication this week by showing two strategies for 2 times 2 digit multiplication.  One is called lattice multiplication. You should ask your child to show it to you, it's quite interesting.
Reading:   This week we will start a new novel called "Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH."
Writing:   Writing will focus on research writing with paragraphs.  Students have chosen an unusual animal to do research on.  We will talk about taking notes and then using them to write an animal report.  We will also probably be doing a slide show using Google slides.
Tech: We continue doing the blog and also will be teaching students how to use Google slides.
Science: We are now studying the classification of animals focusing on invertebrates and mammals.
Art:   This week we're beginning to investigate colour and the colour wheel.
PE:    In PE we will continue practicing basketball skills and continue with fitness training once a week.  I'd like to start teaching the class how to jive this week.
French:   We continue with simple phrases, colours, and feelings.
