November 19, 2018

This week we have photo retakes on the 19th and Quentin comes to our class to do some first nations art on Wednesday.  I will be sending everyone an email this week with a sign up for student/parent/teacher conferences that will take place on Nov. 28th.  If you are unable to make it that day we can arrange to meet another time.

Subjects

Math:  This week we are investigating adding and subtracting strategies.  We are starting with patterns for adding and subtracting and I will be sending home some practice for students as homework.    "Math is the science of patterns."
Reading:    Our class reading group is continuing reading short stories from a collection in a book.  Students read, read out loud, and also answer comprehension questions.  We continue to do word sorts twice a week.
Writing:   We are focussing on writing descriptive sentences--using "spicy" words and more details to make sentences more interesting.  I am also hoping to start the students on creating a blog this week.
Tech: Students have been assigned to make a stopmotion movie of at least 1 minute.  They can work on their own or with a partner.  They are all really excited to be involved with this project
Science: This week we start a unit on using microscopes.
Art:   Students are creating a fantasy map and we continue to do some animal drawing.
PE:    In PE we are doing some fitness activities and learning volleyball skills.   We continue with folk dance learning the Virginia Reel and a hula dance called the Hukilau.
French:   I continue introducing some simple phrases: greetings and days of the week.
