I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving weekend.  This week Quentin is coming on Wednesday to do some first nations' art with the class.  Also, we're starting to use compasses this week and students will be writing a story about a time when they were afraid or brave as part of our School Wide write.  Everyone in the school will be writing about the same theme and then teachers will be meeting together to discuss the results of the writing and how to address writing needs throughout the year.  Remember that there is school on Friday.

Subjects

Math:  We continue to look at patterns: students drawing patterns, converting the pattern numbers to a T-table and then graphing the results.  Students continue to learn about plotting coordinates.
"Math is the science of patterns."
Reading:   We continue with Reading A to Z.  Students read aloud to me regularly so I can check for  fluency and expression.  This week we start Word Sorts which is a spelling program to help students learn word patterns to help with spelling.
Writing:   This week students complete a story for the School Wide Write.  Our focus continues to be sentences: capitals, punctuation and meaning.
Social Studies:  Our focus remains mapping for a few weeks with a major focus on Canada and the provinces. Students will learn how to use a compass.
Art:  We continue to focus on  patterns in art.
PE:    In PE we will be doing some outdoor/indoor games and fitness activities.  We have a dance class weekly with our focus currently on folk dance.  I will also be teaching the class a dance for Michael Jackson's Thriller.  They really will enjoy it!
French:   I continue introducing some simple phrases: greetings and days of the week.
