This week we have photos on Tuesday and Pizza on Thursday.  I've started teaching the students how to use the scroll and they've seen how easy it can be to be creative cutting wood.  Our first project will be to make some jigsaw puzzles.  If you have any thin plywood, door skins, or 1x4, 1x6 cedar we can use it for wood projects.

Subjects

Math:  The next few weeks our focus is number theory which looks at place value, comparing numbers, integers, and rounding numbers.
"Math is the science of patterns."
Reading:   We continue with Reading A to Z.  Our class reading groups is reading short stories from a collection in a book.  Students read, read out loud, and also answer comprehension questions.  We continue to do word sorts twice a week.
Writing:   This first story the students have done was begun with a story starter.  I give the students the first sentence and then the write a story.  "I woke up and was not in my bed."  It's amazing how may different ideas the students came up with from this simple start.
Tech: Students are all now logged into their Google accounts.   I am teaching them how to email, sent links, and make attachments.  Also, I am showing them how to use Google apps.  The first two apps are Google docs and Google drive.  Students can create documents and save them to their drive.   Students can share their work and access their account anywhere.  I've already had a couple of students send me their stories from home.
Social Studies:  In mapping we will focus this week on BC--both geography and places.  Students continue to practice with a compass.
Art:  We continue to focus on patterns in art along with some animal drawing.
PE:    In PE we will be doing some outdoor/indoor games and fitness activities.  We continue with folk dance.   Students have nearly learned Michael Jackson's Thriller.  We hope to perform it for a Halloween assembly.
French:   I continue introducing some simple phrases: greetings and days of the week.
