April 30, 2018

We had a great trip to Pender last week!  It was fun spending time with the friendly grade 3/4/5 class playing games, learning how to play wheelchair basketball, exploring their school and playground, and sharing snacks.  I will try to invite Mr. Kennedy and his class to Fulford School for a visit later in the year.
This week we will finalize the roles for the play Wizard of Oz  we are performing on June 13 and 14.  We will be practicing reading and singing songs from the play daily.  In a few weeks we will be planning the sets for the play and I will need the help of some parents with ideas, costumes, and the art work.  I'll let you know when we have the planning day at school.

Subjects

Math:  This week we will wrap up geometry and then start a unit on fractions.
"Math is the science of patterns."
Reading:    We continue "word sorts"  twice a week with spelling quizzes on the words every two weeks.   Students will be reading Greek myths in reading groups. Our focus before recess is on our end of the year play, "The Wizard of Oz".
Writing:   This week and next we focus on writing memoirs.
Science:  We continue learning how to code using Scratch.  Students will be using the iPads to code their Mindstorm robots they have built.  We'll continue this for another week or two.
Social Studies: You can now view the Barkerville models which are on display next to the library.
Art:  We are looking at drawing 3-d objects in art.
PE:    This term we will focus on badminton and gymnastics.    In dance, Tanya has given us one tango lesson and we'll have another one this week.
French:   In French we will be learning about months, seasons, the weather, as well as beginning to have some short dialogues and conversations.  Students will be using an app called Duolingo in French time for basic language practice.
