Feb. 13, 2018

This week we welcome Nolan back from a long trip to Laos and Cambodia.  What an exciting experience for him!  Nolan kept us up to date with a blog he created and learned to do in class.
We continue having fun with lego robotics, origami, and our study of the Gold Rush!

On Friday I will be serving the students a Cariboo miner's meal of potatoes and beans.  We'll have this after recess and before lunch break.  Students may not need much lunch later on to eat.

Subjects

Math:   We are practicing multiplication strategies and students will be choosing one that they understand and can work with best.
"Math is the science of patterns."
Reading:    We continue "word sorts"  twice a week.  We are nearly finished reading both novels, "My Side of the Mountain" and "Misty of Chincoteague".  After reading the novel, each student will choose a project to work on related to the novel they have read.   On Thursdays we focus on Reader's Theatre and drama activities.
Writing:    This week I will show students how to use slides in google apps to make a presentation.  When they are finished they can share their slide show with you.  The topic will be on an animal.
Science:  Students are having a great time using lego robotics.  Students are working in teams to create an alien planet and an alien creature that lives on it.  It is a creative and engaging way to teach students coding.
Social Studies: Students are traveling up the Cariboo road towards Barkerville. They are reading about the difficulties of travelling to the cariboo and how difficult life would have been for the miners.
Art:  Our theme is colour --learning about the colour wheel and mixing colours in different mediums.
PE:    Most of our focus is on basketball in PE.    In dance, we have started jiving.
French:   In French we will be learning about months and seasons, as well as beginning to have some short dialogues and conversations.
