I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving weekend!  This week we will have a fire safety presentation and we will do a Halloween story on Wednesday and Thursday as part of a school-wide writing theme.  Thanks to Heidi and Michelle who helped make soup last Wednesday--it was delicious. 

Subjects

Math:   We begin investigating numeracy this week which includes the topics of number theory and place value.  
   "Math is the science of patterns."
Reading:    Students continue with Reading A to Z.  We also are practicing our read aloud skills in class with the focus on fluency and expression.  We continue to focus on learning vocabulary patterns.
Writing:    We continue to practice and learn about sentences and grammar.   This week students will writing a story about a personal Halloween experience.
Science: We continue  our study of geology--rocks and minerals this week.  Look below for a video on continental drift.
Social Studies: Our focus is mapping: the world and Canada.  I've been teaching students how to use the compass.  
Art:  We are focusing on lettering in Art.   
PE:  Students are practicing compass work, ultimate frisbee and we are focusing on fitness and flexibility. One day a week students have a dance class.  I've been teaching some folk dances and will soon start teaching them how to dance to Thriller by Michael Jackson.
French:   In French we are focusing on the greetings, numbers, and colours.
