March 13,  2017

This week there are two basketball games. On Monday the girls play at Fernwood and on Wednesday the boys play at Fulford.  Spring break is soon here and I'm trying to finish up some of the projects we've been working on at school so we can start fresh when we get back.  I will be sending home copies of the Snapshot report this week--if you haven't met with me yet, please email or phone and we can arrange a time to meet.

Subjects

Math:   We are starting geometry this week and looking at different shapes and identifying vertices, diameters, and symmetry.
"Math is the science of patterns."
Reading:   We continue to look at word activities that will help with spelling.
Students are working on a project for NIMH which I hope will be finished by Thursday.
Students must record home reading in their reading log Monday to Thursday.
Writing:    I will send a link to the Choose Your Own Adventure website our class has completed sometime this week.  We continue to focus on paragraphs and 5 elements that must be included in them: a main topic, an opening sentence, 5-7 sentences, a closing sentence, and technical aspects including spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
Science:  We are nearly finished our unit on Simple Machines and students are making their projects to show the class.
Tech:  We'll start a unit on Lego Robotics after Spring Break.
Art:  We continue looking at colour, this time with geometric shapes.
PE:  Students continue to work hard at the weekly fitness stations.  We continue Basketball skills for 2 more weeks.
French:  The Ma Famille poster is nearly finished.  Our next theme will be about parts of the body.

You are welcome to phone me or email me if you have  any questions about what is happening in class.  250-537-4962  or jlightfoot@sd64.bc.ca
