Grade 4/5 News

Feb. 20,  2017

This week we have parent conferences on Thursday.  I will be meeting with parents throughout the afternoon to talk about their child and go over their Snapshot Report.  I emailed a shared schedule last week.  If you are wish to arrange another time to meet please let me know.

Subjects

Math:   We will spend a couple of days looking at tangrams and then will start a unit on geometry. 
   "Math is the science of patterns."

Reading:   We continue to look at word power activities such as contractions.   
We are nearly finished "Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH." Students will be completing a final project after the book is finished.   
Students must record home reading in their reading log Monday to Thursday.

Writing:    We're still in the process of completing "Choose your Adventure".  It's taking a lot longer than I thought to complete. The next few weeks we will be studying paragraphs and I'll be showing the class how to write them using a couple of strategies.

Science:  We are nearly finished our unit on Simple Machines and students are making their projects to show the class.  
Tech:  We'll start a unit on Lego Robotics, but this probably won't start until after Spring Break.  

Art:  We continue looking at colour, this time with geometric shapes.  

PE:  Students continue to work hard at the weekly fitness stations.  We continue Basketball skills for 2 more weeks..   

French:  We have begun to study Ma Famille and students are making a poster for their family.
