Feb. 20,  2017

This week at the school we have Pink Shirt day on Wednesday which is a non-bullying day-- a chance to talk about what bullying is and how to prevent it.  All of the coho salmon have hatched as alevins and we only had 2 or 3 eggs that didn't hatch.

Subjects

Math:   We've practiced 3 strategies for doing double digit math.  This week we start division which is typically one of the most difficult topics in math.
"Math is the science of patterns."
Reading:   We continue to look at word power activities.
We are halfway through reading "Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH."
Students must record home reading in their reading log Monday to Thursday.
Writing:    We continue the class story called "Choose your Adventure".  It's taking a lot longer than I thought to complete.  Students are nearly finished their memoir and will be publishing it this week to bring home.  Our next writing activity will be a "Who am I" descriptive paragraph.
Science:  Student have chosen their simple machines science project with their partner. They will be doing research and making a model of a simple machine which they will present and display it for others to see.
Tech:  We continue Hour of Code and students will be able to have fun coding with Sphero.
Art:  We are still investigating colour in art.  It's a great theme to have fun with .
PE:  Students had a great fitness class last Friday and worked hard at the fitness stations.  I'm trying to do fitness once a week.   Basketball skill development continues this week.
French:  We have begun to study Ma Famille.
