Jan. 30,  2017

This week we continue to practice jiving. Student partners will be creating a jive routine to perform for parents and the school sometime in February.  I'll let you know when the day is set.  The salmon arrived last Thursday and they seem content and ready to hatch in a week or two.

Subjects

Math:   We continue investigating multiplication using arrays, multiples and grids.  Students will be practicing times tables daily and will have some home practice.
"Math is the science of patterns."
Reading:   We continue to look at word power and activities with suffixes.
Students continue reading a group novel called "Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH."  It's a good story about rats who learn to read.
Students must record home reading in their reading log Monday to Thursday.
Writing:    We have started a class story called "Choose your Adventure".  It will take a couple of weeks to complete and will be posted online for you to look at.  Students are really keen in writing a creative sci-fi story about being lost on another planet.  They are writing it on Google docs so they can share it with you when they are done.
Science:  Student are matched in partners and  will choose a project on a simple machine of their choice this week.  They will be doing research and making a model of a simple machine.  They will present their project as a class and display it for others to see.
Tech:  We continue Hour of Code and students will be able to have fun coding with Sphero.
Art:  We continue focusing on colours: primary, secondary, and complementary.
PE:  We continue with some fitness training and jiving.  Basketball continues this week.
French:  We continue  with learning colours and I'll introduce weather.
