Jan. 23,  2017

The coho salmon eggs will be coming on Thursday this week.  We usually get about 200 eggs; they hatch in about 3 weeks and we release them usually on Earth Day, April 22.  Quentin Harris will be here twice this week to do some Native art drawings.  He's always fun to have in the class.  FSAs start for Grade 4 students this week.  Basketball is Tuesdays for boys and Wednesdays for girls.

Subjects

Math:   We continue investigating multiplication using arrays, multiples and grids.  Students will be practicing times tables daily.
"Math is the science of patterns."
Reading:   We continue to look at word power and activities with prefixes and suffixes.
Students are now reading a group novel called "Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH."  It's a good story about rats who learn to read.
Students must record home reading in their reading log Monday to Thursday.
Writing:    The time capsule should have gone home last week and will be hidden and opened in 10 years! We will be starting a group story called "Choose your Adventure".  Each student will be contributing a short chapter of a story which will give readers choices about their adventure.  The story will be posted to a web page which you will be able to read.
Science:  We will be studying simple machines and students will be paired up to do a project on a simple machine of their choice.
Tech:  We continue coding and students will be able to have fun coding with Sphero which is a robotic sphere.
Art:  We continue focusing on colours.
PE:  We continue with some fitness training and jiving.  Basketball continues this week.
French:  We continue  with learning colours and I'll introduce weather.
