April 25, 2016

This week we have 3 field trips planned so it will be a busy and active week.  On Monday afternoon Michelle Spencer and I are taking the class to Fulford creek to release our coho salmon.  On Wednesday morning we go with Charlotte Bowman to Blackburn Lake for a pond study.  Then on Thursday we travel to Pender to spend some time with Mr. Kennedy's grade 4/5 class.

Subjects

Math:   We are working with liquid measures this week.  Next week we're starting division.
"Math is the science of patterns."
Reading:   We have chosen a script for our year end class play, it is Peter Pan.  For the next couple of weeks we will be re-reading and revising the script and students will be choosing parts in the cast.
Writing:  Now that we've finished with our character study, students will be spending some time using graphic organizers to outline a fictional story.  Then we'll begin writing down some ideas about character, setting and plot.  Next will be a draft of their story.
Tech:   Students are working with "Hour of Code" online and I've been teaching them about the binary system.  We also have a Sphero robot which is programmable with code.  We started last week and everyone loves it.  We've named the Sphero "Gandalf."
Science:  We are continuing to look at Work and energy in science.
Art:  We continue doing some crafts such as knot tying and macrame plus some line drawing skills.
PE:  Students are learning to jive and we'll be starting a unit on gymnastics this week.
French:  Students continue learning simple French words and greetings. They will be learning days of the week, months, and the weather.
