April 11, 2016

This week I need to have the forms in for the Spring Showcase which is on April 20.  Students can perform on stage or bring something to display that they have made or collected.  You should have received the note about the class sleepover on April 21.  I'm asking parents to lead some workshops on an art, craft or some other activity for about 90 minutes at either 4:00 or 6:30.  Plus I do need a few adults to stay overnight to help supervise the students.  If you are interested please return the form with your stated interests.  I'll send out a formal permission slip later this week.

Subjects

Math:   We continue working with measurement.  Students are completing a scaled diagram of their room then we will be looking at volume.
"Math is the science of patterns."
Reading:   We have started reading some scripts and begin the process of choosing a play for the end of year performance.  We will also be doing some novel reading and doing Spoonerisms.
Writing:  We continue working on creating a character.  Students are using a mind map to help them develop the character.
Tech:   Students are working with "Hour of Code" online and I've been teaching them about the binary system.
Science:  Last week we dissected daffodils and this week we will be doing an experiment on pendulums.  Afterwards we start our unit on work.
Art:  We continue doing some crafts such as knot tying and macrame.
PE:  I will be working with students on developing some badminton skills and teach them to jive in dance.
French:  Students continue learning simple French words and greetings. They will be learning days of the week, months, and the weather.
