March 14, 2016

This is the last week before Spring Break and we will be busy with lots of work to do. First, thanks to the parents who were able to come to the student/parent reporting conference last Thursday.  Even with the power outage, students were able to do a great job.  If you didn't get a chance to see your child's website, ask them to sign in to their google email and then go their website for a tour.  I've also asked the students to email you their website address.  We'll be adding to the website throughout the year so you can check on it for any updates.  If you weren't able to attend the conference please chat with me about another time to arrange a conference at school.

I hope you can join us on Thursday at 1:30 for a presentation about our study of immigration to Canada in 1914.  There will be some treats, information and entertainment.

Subjects

Math:   We have started a new math unit on measurement.  Students have learned how to measure with mm, cm, and meters.  We've also looked at perimeter and will be investigating area this week.  I hope to start an interesting math project with the students after the break.
"Math is the science of patterns."
Reading:   We will be beginning to do a lot of drama in the next few weeks and start looking at scripts and ideas for doing a play at the end of the year.
Writing:  Daily journal writing continues.  We've finished with memoirs--I hope you read your child's memoir posted on their website. Next we're going to be focusing on writing from different points of view.
Tech:   Students are having a great time working with iStop Motion on the iPads.
Social Studies:   Please enjoy the projects and entertainment on Pioneer Day!
Art:  After spring break we will be involved doing some crafts such as knot tying and macrame.
PE:  Students continue with folk dance (square dance) and basketball skills.
French:  Students continue learning simple French words and greetings. They will be learning days of the week, months, and the weather.
Recorders:  We continue with recorders and students are practicing the B, A, G and C notes.
