Charlotte Bowman continues with our study of red-legged frogs on Tuesday afternoon.  Students are learning about frog adaption, life cycle and are going outside to look at their habitat.  Our coho eggs have hatched and now we have about 194 allevin in the fish tank.  We won't start feeding them for a few weeks.

Students will receive their helmets on Wednesday thanks to Margaritta Nordine. Boys play basketball at Saltspring on Thursday at lunch and I'm sure they will have fun.

Subjects

Math:   Students have learned 2 strategies to do 2 digit multiplication including lattice multiplication.    Students continue practicing times tables daily and are assigned a page of practice to complete each night.
"Math is the science of patterns."
Reading:    We've finished with Greek mythology and will be working with Reader's Theatre scripts for a while.  Students practice the story together and focus on expression, loudness and fluency in their voices.  We continue video recording stories for student websites.
Writing:  Daily journal writing continues.  Students have completed one memoir and have started writing another one.  It's interesting to read about the emotional and important memories students have of their past.
Tech:   We continue with...Website, website, website!!!
Social Studies:   Students are working on completing a model of their house and working on a poster for the immigrant job.  I am planning a Pioneer Day for March 17.  Students will be displaying their work and performing some songs and country dances.  I'll let you know the details when we have planned the day.  Likely it will start just after lunch.
Art:  We are working on an oil pastel resist project.  Students cover paper fully with random oil pastel colours and then paint it with a solid colour.  When it is dry they scratch the acrylic paint off with a nail and create a picture.  They love doing it because the colours underneath come through "magically."
PE:  Students continue with folk dance (square dance) and basketball skills.
French:  Students continue learning simple French words and greetings. They will be learning days of the week, months, and the weather.
Recorders:  We continue with recorders and students are practicing the B, A, G and C notes.
