May 4,  2015

We sure had a blast at the sleep over last Thursday!  We had lots of time with games, crafts, and activities, pizza for supper and a movie.  It was a great opportunity for the class to have a fun time together.  Thanks to the parents that helped make it a great success: Jamil, Jane, Pilay, Heidi, Rob, Bridgette, Bryan, and Darren.

We have chosen parts for the play, Treasure Island, and all students should be practicing their lines and trying to memorize them.  We will do readings this week and then do blocking next week in the music room.  In a few weeks I will be asking students and parents to help design the sets for the play.  A lot of work and a lot of fun!!!!

Subjects

Math:   In geometry students have learned about points and different types of lines.  This week they will learn about angles and how to measure them using protractors, plus different types of triangles.
Reading: We continue reading and writing poetry as well as practicing Treasure Island.
Writing: After our visit with the author Kim Thompson last week, we will be developing characters for a story.
Social Studies:   We have arrived in Barkerville and students will be choosing jobs and businesses there.
Art: We have started a project on weaving using cedar bark.  Students will be using bark from a cedar tree on the school site to complete a group weaving that will be placed on the cedar tree which is next to the outdoor classroom.
PE:  I have started fitness stations that I will be doing with the students every Tuesday.  Students have done an amazing job working at the stations!  We continue to do folk dancing and have learned the Hora and some Hula dancing.
French:  Students will be learning some French phrases and dialogue using a whimsical series call Telefrancais..
