November 17

Students completed a Math quiz on Thursday and I was pleased overall how the students performed.  I've asked the students to take the quiz home to show you their result.  This week they also will have a quiz in Social Studies on the continents, oceans, and provinces and capitals of Canada.  We will be practicing for the quiz at school.  I am taking time is class showing students how to practice and study for a quiz to prepare them for Middle and High School.

Subjects

Math:  We are focusing on practice, drill and strategies for subtraction.
Reading:  We did a Reader's Theater last week and the students really enjoyed it.  With Reader's Theater, groups of students are given short scripts which they practice and then read aloud to the class.  We focus on loudness, expression, and fluency with oral reading.
Writing: This week we have been focusing on brainstorming ideas about Christmas.  Students will be using a Story Map to help them create an outline a Christmas story.  The completed story will be entered in the annual Driftwood Christmas story contest.
Keyboarding: Keyboarding practice continues daily.   I encourage students to practice keyboarding at home at the online site we use at school.  www.freetypinggame.net
Social Studies: A quiz will be completed this week.
Science:We will begin a unit on nutrition and healthy eating this week.
Art: Students will create some interesting patterns with positive/negative images.
PE:  Volleyball continues.  I am also teaching students dance once a week.
