November 10

Tomorrow our class is going to Remembrance day ceremonies at GISS with Mr. MacQueen's class. We have a Remembrance Day ceremony at school where our class will read "In Flanders Fields".  We leave for GISS at 9:40 and will attend the assembly in the gym.  Afterwards we'll have lunch and then go swimming from 12:00 to 1:00.  Then we'll go for a walk in Mouat's Park and play some frisbee golf.  We'll be back at school at about 2:45.

Subjects

Math:  We are focusing on practice, drill and strategies for subtraction.
Reading:  This week we will be doing some oral reading activities and continue with Reading A to Z.
Writing: Students continue practice sentence writing and looking at grammar. We are also doing "Quick Writes" where students write continuously without pausing for a focused amount of time.  The concept is to get them to put down their thoughts as quickly as possible.  Also, this is very good practice for keyboarding.
Keyboarding: Keyboarding practice continues daily.   I encourage students to practice keyboarding at home at the online site we use at school.  www.freetypinggame.net
Social Studies: We are studying maps for the next few weeks. We are looking at the provinces with a particular focus on BC.
Art: Students will create some interesting patterns with positive/negative images.
PE:  We will be starting volleyball this week.  Some students in grade 4/5 may be playing on the school volleyball team with Ms. Mullen.
