Oct. 6
The class had a great hike to Reginald Hill on Thursday.  The weather was clear and beautiful and the view from the top of the mountain was fantastic!  Check out the pictures on this page.  Parent interviews are Wednesday this week.  Please sign up at school outside the classroom for a time in the afternoon.  You can also give me a call if you are unable to make it on Wednesday and we can arrange another time.

Subjects

Math:  We’ll finish patterns this week and then start a unit on place and number value.
Reading:  Students are reading at their reading levels this week in a program called Reading A to Z.  They will then be engaged in an individual levelled reading program which we will use 2 days a week.  The other two days of reading will be focussed on reading skills such as word power and comprehension.
Writing: This week we begin looking at formal aspects of writing including defining and writing sentences.  We will look at grammar as well as parts of speech starting with nouns.
Keyboarding: Keyboarding practice continues daily.   I encourage students to practice keyboarding at home at the online site we use at school.  www.freetypinggame.net
Science:  We will be studying trees for a few more lessons.
Art: Our focus in art for the next couple of weeks will be lettering--block, bubble, 3D, etc..
PE:  In PE we continue playing group games; later students in small groups will be creating their own games which they will teach to the class.
