This Week

We had a great sleep over on Thursday night.  The students were cooperative, listened well and had a great time at the activities.  Thanks to Carina, David, Tina, and Meghan for staying overnight and helping to chaperon the class.  What a wonderful class we have!  On Monday Cate McEwan is coming to speak to us in the afternoon about water testing and sampling we’ll be doing at Fulford Creek.  On Wednesday, we’ll be leaving the school at 11:00, having lunch at Drummond Park and then conducting water sample testing in groups at Fulford Creek.  This will be the first of probably three visits to the Creek.  If you would like to join us meet us at our room at 11:00 on Wednesday.

Subjects

Math:  We’ll be spending a few more lessons on division and finish up on Thursday.  Next, we’ll be focusing on geometry.
Reading:  This week we’ll be discussing the plays we’ve read and trying to narrow down the choices.  I’d like to have a play chosen for performance by Thursday if possible.    On Wednesdays we continue working with poetry--reading and writing.
Writing:  Students are working on writing a story with a story lead-in given to them.
Keyboarding: Keyboarding practice continues daily.   I encourage students to practice keyboarding at home at the online site we use at school.  www.freetypinggame.net
Social Studies:  Students are nearly finished the homestead model and will be displaying them along with their projects in the next couple of weeks.
Art: Much of our art projects have to do with activities concerning the homesteads such as drawing their homestead and building a model of their home.
PE:  We continue with dance on Tuesdays.  I taught them a disco routine and next I’ll show them how to do the Thriller dance.   We are doing floor hockey now.
French:  In the next few weeks students will be learning about the family--names and phrases.    I also plan on teaching them a couple of songs.
