April 28

Last week we were very busy releasing salmon and testing water at Fulford Creek and then we had a visit from Trevor Tamboline who is an artist with Disney.  The class loved his chat about drawing and animation.  We decided on a play for our year-end presentation--it’s Alice in Wonderland!  It was a close vote with the Wizard of Oz, but the students loved the craziness of Alice.  We are currently picking parts for the play and we’ll be practicing like “mad” for the show in the upcoming weeks.  Dates for the play will be the first or second week in June.

Subjects

Math:  We’re investigating the wonderful world of geometry--shapes, figures, and lines.
Reading: Our big focus for the upcoming reading times will be reading and rehearsing Alice in Wonderland.  It’s a rich play full of wonderful language and zany stories for the students to read and be engaged with.
Writing:  Students will be learning to write a script for a short scene from a play.
Keyboarding: Keyboarding practice continues daily.   I encourage students to practice keyboarding at home at the online site we use at school.  www.freetypinggame.net
Social Studies:  Homestead activities are just about finished.  On Thursday we will be have pioneer games and activities in the morning.
Art: Much of our art projects have to do with activities concerning the homesteads such as drawing their homestead and building a model of their home.
PE:  We continue with dance on Tuesdays.  We are learning and practicing Michael Jackson’s Thriller dance.   We are doing floor hockey now and will be starting track and field next week.
French:  In the next few weeks students will be learning about the family--names and phrases.    I also plan on teaching them a couple of songs.
