This Week

Students had a fun time on Thursday working with clay with Johanna Hoskins.  They made tiles for an art display and other personal objects.  It’s amazing how much enjoyment everyone gets from squeezing and shaping clay.  Basketball starts this week for grade 4/ 5 girls and boys: I will be coaching the girls and Lindsay MacQueen will be coaching the boys.  I’ll send home a note about games when a schedule is set up.

Subjects

Math: We will finish multiplication this week practicing 2 by 2 digit multiplication.  I’m going to show the students a neat way to multiply called Lattice multiplication.  They will bring home a couple of questions to show you how it is done.
Reading:  I am reassessing student reading levels and students are engaged in stories from the Reading A to Z program.  We’re looking at compound words and contractions.
Writing:  Students are continuing to write paragraphs--this week’s focus is “Learning how to…”.
Keyboarding: Keyboarding practice continues daily.   I encourage students to practice keyboarding at home at the online site we use at school.  www.freetypinggame.net
