This Week

For the past 6 years my class has raised salmon and released them into Fulford Creek.  On Wednesday we get about 200 coho eggs placed in our tank.  We’ll watch them over 3 months develop and then release them probably on Earth Day (April 22).  I know the students will enjoy watching them as they develop and grow plus they love releasing them into the creek.  This is the last week students can recycle plastics, juice boxes and other materials at school.  Starting next week all those materials must be taken home.

Subjects

Math: Students are learning about linear measurement using mm, cm, m, and km.  This week I will teach them about perimeter and then area.
Reading:  Students are practicing with partners reading aloud.  I am recording them on my iPad and showing them on the digital projector.  They can see themselves reading and focus on improving fluency, loudness, expression, and clarity.
Writing:  Students are continuing to write paragraphs--this week’s focus is “Organizing ideas”.
Keyboarding: Keyboarding practice continues daily.   I encourage students to practice keyboarding at home at the online site we use at school.  www.freetypinggame.net
Social Studies:  Students are studying maps of the provinces.  As well, they are creating a fantasy map that includes imaginative details and geographical features.
Art: We continue looking at shapes and lines in art.
PE:  We continue with dance on Tuesdays: presently I’m teaching square dancing.  Also, students will be learning basketball skills.
French:  We continue learning and practicing more numbers, days of the week, and months of the year.  I also plan on teaching them a couple of songs.
