This Week

I plan to take the class on a hike to Drummond Park on Thursday morning at 9:00 weather permitting.  Along the way we’ll be picking up any litter along the roadway and on the beach.  As well, we’ll be hunting for any interesting rocks or fungi that we might find.  We’ll have a snack and some play time and then return to school at about 11:00.  Join us at the school if you’d like to come along.

Subjects

Math: The pattern project that combines using a pattern, t-chart and a graph is completed.  I’ll assess it and send it home at the end of the week.  We’ve started number theory and numeracy which includes topics such as place value, expanded numbers and rounding.
Reading: I am currently assessing students on their oral reading skills.  I consider fluency, expression, clarity and loudness as the 4 main elements.  Oral reading skills are important factors in reading comprehension and understanding.
Writing: Students are developing a good understanding of paragraphs which will be a focus for several weeks.  They will also be writing a Halloween story.
Keyboarding: Daily keyboarding continues.  I encourage students to practice at home on the website we use at school:  http://www.freetypinggame.net/
Art: Halloween’s approaching and we’ll be focusing on Halloween art and decorating the classroom.
PE:  Volleyball continues this week in PE classes. Every Tuesday is dance day: students continue learning to jive.
