This Week
We
had a very productive week last week, even though many students were
tired from their spring break. We’ve spent some time over the past few
weeks reading and reviewing scripts for a class play this year. This
week I would like to narrow down the choices so that we can soon pick a
play to perform sometime in June. I’ll let you know ASAP as soon as the
class makes its choice. It means a lot of work, practice, and planning
but the play will certainly be one of the highlights of the year.
Subjects
Math:
Students have enjoyed exploring mass and using scales to investigate
the mass of different objects. We look at liquid measures this week.
Reading:
Students really enjoyed working with Spoonerisms--slips of tongue that
make sense, e.g., I hit my bunny phone, instead of I hit my funny bone.
We have started to read a great novel called, “Old Yeller.”
Writing: We’ve talked about characters in stories and students are completing a character study of a character they have created.
Keyboarding:
Keyboarding practice continues daily. I encourage students to
practice keyboarding at home at the online site we use at school. www.freetypinggame.net
Science: We
have been studying “work” in science and students have completed
investigations with cars and we just explored using pulleys. This week
we learn about levers.
Art: We continue to look at mixing colours but will also begin weaving.
PE:
In dance we continue to learn some folk dances. This week we’ll also
learn “Thriller.” In other classes we are practicing and playing floor
hockey.
French: We
continue to practice greetings and phrases. We are viewing a series
called Telefrancais and the students really seem to enjoy it.
