This Week
We are hiking to Fulford Creek Monday morning to release our Coho salmon. If you would like to join us we are leaving school at 10:20. On Tuesday morning students are involved in a workshop about Climate Change. Last week we planted some of our garden bed by the greenhouse. The class chose a flower theme and we put in some pansies, geraniums, and other plants. We hope it will look great in a few weeks. This week we will choose students parts for the play "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe." It will take a lot of effort to make sure all the students get roles they like, but I do double cast the parts so that does make it easier to have more students acting their favourite roles.
Subjects
Math: We are spending the next few days learning about perimeter, area, and volume. I'll be asking the students to measure a room in the house so that they can do a scale drawing at school of it.
Reading: We continue reading Old Yeller and students are doing vocabulary and other language activities as they read the book.
Writing: The character study turned out quite well. Now students will be writing poems for the next few weeks.
Keyboarding: Keyboarding practice continues daily. I encourage students to practice keyboarding at home at the online site we use at school. www.freetypinggame.net
Science: Students have learned about the incredible number of simple machines found in our houses by studying a website and completing an activity sheet. On Thursday, students had fun making a catapulit and launching marshmallows in the gym.
Art: We continue to look at mixing colours but will also begin weaving.
PE: In dance we continue to learn some folk dances. This week we’ll also learn “Thriller.” In other classes we are practicing and playing floor hockey.
French: We continue to practice greetings and phrases. We are viewing a series called Telefrancais and the students really seem to enjoy it.
