This Week
I
hope everyone had a marvelous Thanksgiving weekend. This week students will be going into the
computer lab to start practicing keyboarding and learning different aspects
of word processing. It’s important for
students to become proficient with keyboarding (both speed and accuracy) so
that they can improve their efficiency when they do written work. It would be great if students practice at home
for about 10 minutes per day. I have made
a link on the sidebar to the online keyboarding site we use at school.
Subjects
Math: We have
begun to look at number coordinates starting with a game called Hurkle which is
like battleships. Next we will be developing patterns with coordinates in a
math project I showed at parent night.
Reading: Students
continue to work with Reading A to Z. We are also continue to look at basics of
language including syllabication, alphabetization, and building word
power.
Writing:
Students will be typing their adventure story. They have also finished
the Horne Lake webs. We will be focusing on sentences structure for the next
few weeks and doing research for a non-fiction writing project. Students also continue
to use their nature journals outside.
Art: Students are doing some interesting pattern
activities and I’m teaching them how to do 3-D and vanishing point lettering.
PE: We continue
to focus on creative games—students will be asked to create their own games to
demonstrate to the class. Tuesdays is
dance day.
