This Week
On
Wednesday we’re going to Saltspring Elementary to watch a presentation by an author. On Thursday Margaretha Nordine, a member of Island Pathways, is
coming to talk about bicycle safety and to give students a chance to buy a new
helmet for $10. She will fit the students
for helmets and then order them for pickup in a few weeks. I’ll send a note home about it on Tuesday.
Math: We
start a new math unit this week on fractions.
Reading: In Lit
Circles students are meeting in groups to discuss their books and writing
responses to parts they enjoy.
Writing:
Students are continuing to write creative stories and spending time
outside writing in their nature journals.
Computer: Students are nearly finished
their Powerpoint on a topic about the digestive system. They will be able to show their project to
parents at a student-led conference at the end of the year.
Science: We saw a nifty DVD on the digestive
system last week; this week we’ll be studying senses and completing a taste
test.
Art: We’re continuing to focus on drawing eyes and then
we’ll look at other features of the face.
PE: These weeks
we’re spending time practicing for the track and field meet that will be held
on May 28th. Tuesday times we
are practicing for our upcoming dance show.
