This Week
We
said good-bye to Ms. Benloulou on Thursday.
She had a wonderful time with us and endeared herself to the students
with her pleasant manner and her energy.
We wish her all the best in her teaching career.
This week we will be starting to develop the plan
for our year-end production. We have
decided to do a dance show and will incorporate a variety of dances into a
scripted show based on something like “So You Think You Can Dance”. The dance show will be presented in
mid-June.
Math: In
geometry we’re investigating polygons.
Reading: This
week we will be starting a Literature Circle unit on the theme of
adventure. Students will be choosing
novels from a selection, reading the books, then coming together in small
groups to discuss aspects of the books, plus do some activities. Lit Circles will continue for several
weeks.
Writing:
We are continuing with students writing a creative story.
Computer: Students have quickly learned
how to create a powerpoint and have created one based on their choice. Next, I will challenge them to complete a
research topic and create a powerpoint on it.
Science: Students have learned some
general aspects of the digestive system and this week we will be conducting
some experiments on carbohydrates. Students will be asked to bring some foods
from home to complete a starch test.
Art: Weaving has been a huge success and students have
enjoyed it immensely. Next we’re going
to start drawing the human body starting with the face.
PE: Wednesday—jogging and fitness; Tuesday--dance; Monday
and Thursday are game day. This week
we’re going to learn some crazy dances from the 50s and 60s.
