This Week
We
continue discussing ideas for a play the class will be doing in May or early
June as well reading some scripts. We
are drying out the driftwood pieces and will drill holes and place reeds in
preparation for making reed baskets with Deb Magnusson on Thursday, March 1. This week we will continue writing book
reviews, edit them, and then place them on a wiki site. I hope to have this done by next week. On Tuesday we will go to Artspring to see the
opera Hansel and Gretel presented by a Vancouver group. It should be fun!
I am sending
out forms for the Spring Showcase if your child is interested in performing or
displaying a talent or interest for the school.
Performances can be lip-syncs, dance, gymnastics; displays can be art,
leg, and collections. If your child is
interested please have them return the permission sheet.
Math: Students
are learning to measure in mm, cm, and meters, and learning how to convert
different measures. We’ll be looking at
perimeter later in the week.
Reading: In the
book Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH students
are drawing pictures of mazes where the rats learned skills such as
reading. As well we are working on
developing word power skills with vocabulary and prefix practice.
Writing:
We continue to work on producing work for My Book using ideas Nadine has developed with the class.
Computer: Students are becoming better
at their typing skills , however too many students continue to look at their
hands when they type. This really slows
them down! Practice at home would help
improve their speed and accuracy. http://www.freetypinggame.net/
Social studies: Students are choosing a business
to operate in Barkerville. They are making business cards on the computer and will
start this week making a model of their business.
Art: We continue to investigate mixing colours with
different media.
Recorder: Back to playing some favourite
songs and some review.
PE: Monday—jogging and fitness; Tuesday--dance; Wednesday
and Thursday are game day. In dance we
have learned the Virginia reel, the chicken dance, and parts of Michael
Jackson’s Thriller. This week we learn the Hora and a Hawaiian
dance, the Hukilau.
