This Week
This is another busy week.  We have begun working on the class wiki site.  Students each have their own wiki page and are entering information about their hobbies, interests, and other information.  You can check the site out at http://lightfootgrade5.wikispaces.com/     On Thursday, Nadine Shelley is coming to class to work with the students on a writing project.  Students are going to make a book about themselves and their interests and may include stories and poems.  Nadine will be coming to class several times to guide the students in the creation of their book.  We hope to have all the information planned, gathered, and published in handmade book form by spring break.
Math: We are still working to 2 and 3 digit multiplication; you can help your child master the basic facts with some practice at home. I have listed a couple of online math sites that help students practice multiplication facts.
Reading: Reading groups are back this week.  I will be continuing some work with vocab, specifically number prefixes.   We’ve started a group novel called Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH.
Writing:  We will continue writing descriptive paragraphs and begin planning with Nadine the personal student books.
Computer: Keyboarding practice is done 2 or 3 times a week.  We use the online site http://www.freetypinggame.net/ to practice.  Home practice will help your child be more proficient.
Social studies: Students will continue with the study of the Gold rush in B.C.  They’ve started a diary and will be reading information about panning for gold in the Fraser Canyon.  Ask them about their project.
Art: We looking at mixing colours this week.
Recorder: Back to playing some favourite songs and some review.
PE: Monday—jogging and fitness; Tuesday--dance; Wednesday and Thursday are game day.
