This Week
This week students are learning how to do the Virginia Reel.  Also, in computer time I will be introducing the students to the class wiki site.  Each student will have a page to write about themselves—interesting facts, hobbies, interests, and other items. When students have completed some work on the wiki I’ll post the web page on the blog. Later in the year we will be doing other wikis: one with book review and another about biking.
Math: We continue with multiplication—I’m teaching the students a couple of ways to 2 and 3 digit multiplication; you can help your child master the basic facts with some practice at home. I have listed a couple of online math sites that help students practice multiplication facts.
Reading: Reading groups are back this week.  I will be continuing some work with vocab, specifically number prefixes.   We’ll also be starting to read a group novel this week.
Writing:  We have been writing descriptive paragraphs in our writing journals.
Computer: Keyboarding practice is done 2 or 3 times a week.  We use the online site http://www.freetypinggame.net/ to practice.  I have the students cover their hands while typing so they learn the keys by finger memory.  It’s difficult at first but will improve their skills and speed greatly.  If your child has time at home on the computer they should be practicing their keyboarding!
Social studies: This week we start on a historical journey back to the gold rush era of the 1850s.  Students will be create a character and keep a diary of their journey through the gold fields as they make their way to Barkerville.  It will be a fun and interesting adventure.
Art: We continue to investigate the colour wheel and primary colours.
Recorder: Back to playing some favourite songs and some review.
PE: Monday—jogging and fitness; Tuesday--dance; Wednesday and Thursday are game day.
