Subjects

Math:  We will complete multiplying 2 x 2 digit numbers this week and then begin looking more closely at division.
"Math is the science of patterns."
Reading:    We continue "word sorts"  twice a week with spelling quizzes on the words every two weeks.   Students are working on activities they have chosen relevant to the novels "My Side of the Mountain" and "Misty of Chincoteague". On Thursdays we focus on Reader's Theatre, scripts, and drama activities.
Writing:   Students are working on creative writing with "story starters".  I give them the beginning sentence or two of a story and they write the rest.  It's interesting to see what the students write and it helps the students to be more flexible and focused on their writing.
Science:  This will be the last week working with lego robotics.  Students will be able to show their robotic creations to parents at the interview meetings on Thursday.  Next we'll be working with lego Mindstorms after spring break.
Social Studies: We are in Barkerville and students have chosen a business to work at there.  The business they have is an authentic business that existed in Barkerville in the 1860s.    Students have started to make business cards and this week they will make a business card holder out of wood and a poster advertising their business.
Art:  We continue to look at colour in different media in art.
PE:    Most of our focus is on basketball in PE.    In dance, we continue with jiving.
French:   In French we will be learning about months, seasons, the weather, as well as beginning to have some short dialogues and conversations.
