This week we go to Friday which is a bit different for everyone.  Our class has started to work with Quentin Harris and Johanna Hoskins to design our panel for the new school mural.  We have the middle panel of five and our design is a first nations sun with animals around it.  We have the sun design ready and the animals are the ones used for the cards.  We hope to begin putting the designs on the 2 wood panels this Thursday.  We're having a lot of fun with this project.

Subjects

Math:   We are studying multiplication and learning patterns and strategies to help students with mastery of the concepts. Arrays and basic facts are being practiced as well.
"Math is the science of patterns."
Reading:    We use "word sorts"  twice a week to help with spelling and word patterns.  We also continue with the two novels, "My Side of the Mountain" and "Misty of Chincoteague".  On Thursdays we focus on Reader's Theatre and drama activities.
Writing:    Students are back to working with paragraph development with short paragraphs on assigned topics.  I have also assigned them a science fiction story to write.
Science:  Students have been doing a lot of coding using the great online programs with Hour of Code.  We are using a coding program with a robot called Sphero and the students are having fun with it.  I hope to start them doing some lego robotics this week.
Social Studies: We continue with our study of the Gold Rush in B.C.
Art:  Our theme will be looking at colour and patterns and we are working with the school mural.
PE:    Most of our focus is on basketball in PE.    In dance, I will be starting to teach the students how to jive.
French:   In French we will be learning about months and seasons, as well as beginning to have some short dialogues and conversations.
