This week we are at school on Friday for an extra day.  We had a great time at the Science presentation at GISS.  We were there with students from Fernwood and SSE and had a great looking at the science projects the grade 12s did on the human body.  I hope we'll be able to do it again next year!  I'm thinking of doing a science fair with our class later in the year and perhaps we can invite the grade 12s to come and visit us.

Subjects

Math:   We have begun multiplication and have started to look at multiples and creating arrays.  Students will be practicing timestables daily and I will be assigning them a page of practice to complete each night.
"Math is the science of patterns."
Reading:  We are continuing to work on the story boards and will finish them this week.  Next, we'll be reading some Greek/Roman mythology as well as beginning to do Reader's Theatre one day a week. I plan to have each student practice reading aloud and recording it on their iPad to upload on their website.  This will probably take a couple of weeks.
Writing:  Daily journal writing continues and students will be learning to write a memoir.
Tech:   We continue with...Website, website, website!!!
Social Studies:   Students have written 5 diary entries in their immigration diary and have chosen a 1/4 section of land in Swan Lake.  They will begin settling their land starting with building a simple house and clearing some land.
Science: We will continue science activities at a later date.
Art:  We've been practicing mixing colours and the students are enjoying it very much.  We'll continue this for the week with a couple of art projects.
PE:  Students continue with folk dance and basketball skills.
French:  Students continue learning simple French words and greetings. They will be learning days of the week, months, and the weather.
Recorders:  We continue with recorders and students are practicing the B, A, G notes.  They also have a binder with lots of practice music so they can practice at home if they wish.
