This Week
Our trip to Rathtrevor is planned this week.  It should be a wonderful trip and lots of fun.  Because of the chance of nasty weather we will travel to the Nanaimo Pool as planned and swim until 12:30 and see what the weather is like. If the weather is terrible we will make a decision about returning home later on Tuesday.

Subjects
Math: We continue our focus for the first few weeks on math patterns.
Reading: I am doing some reading assessments with the students so I can become familiar with their skills and comprehension. Students will be reading short stories, readers’ theatre, and we’ll be focusing on reading fluency.  Once a week I look to do a news story with the class.
Writing: Attention will be focused on developing a strong understanding of sentences and grammar.  Students will be have daily writing times and are currently writing pen pal letters to children in Malawi.
Keyboarding: We begin keyboarding this week as a daily practice.  Students will practice typing skills with their hands covered to ensure they don’t look at their hands.  Improved typing skills means better and more writing for stories and research. I encourage students to practice at home on the website we use at school:  http://www.freetypinggame.net/
Art: The themes we continue looking at in art are lines and patterns.
PE:  I’m starting out with simple games and focusing on cooperation and teamwork.  Every Tuesday is dance day: students are learning to jive.
