This Week
It’s
great to be back in the classroom after many weeks being away. My knee is recovering very well although it
can be sore and stiff at times. I’m
looking forward with excitement at being back with the class in anticipation of
all the fun activities and schoolwork we’ll be doing in the upcoming
months. The class is involved with a
school-wide project on cultures in the world and our class is looking at
Mexico. We are making piñatas and other
art projects and students are working on projects to present. The classroom will be decorated to show the
rest of the classes and a multicultural afternoon is planned for Feb. 21. Drop by if you can to see the work the
students have done.
Subjects
Math: In math
students are finishing off multiplication.
I’m showing them how to do lattice multiplication, ask them to show it
to you it’s pretty cool. Next we’ll be
looking at division for a few weeks.
Reading: Students
have been reading about Greek myths and are creating individual
brochures on their favourite god or goddess (or mortal). Students are thinking about dressing for their
character, that should be fun.
Writing:
Students are finishing off a story involving dialogue. Using dialogue is difficult because of the
many grammar and punctuation aspects.
Art: Our focus is creating art based on Mexico.
PE: Students
are learning basketball skills and many are participating in the girls’ and
boys’ teams. Tuesdays we’re learning folk dances and the Mexican hat dance.
French: Students continue to learn
basic vocabulary and phrases and practice speaking in class.
