This week we are finalizing details for our camping trip to Horne Lake on Sept. 24/25.  If you have any questions about the trip please give me a call.   I am having a parent information night on Wednesday at 7:00 in the classroom.  I will be outlining class routines, talking about my expectations for students, discussing subject areas, and giving you a chance to ask questions about the classroom.  You can also sign up for Parent/Teacher interviews on Sept. 26.
Subjects
Math: We are beginning the year studying patterns.  Students know that “Math is the science of patterns” and having a solid understanding of patterns is fundamental for all math.
Reading: I am currently interviewing students to assess their reading attributes and levels.  We are also looking at basics of language including syllables, alphabetization, and building word power.
Writing:  Students have started writing an story in their writing notebook.  This first story is a chance to see each student’s writing abilities so I can gauge how to help them to improve their writing. We will also begin focusing on sentences structure and grammar. Students are beginning to use their nature journals outside.
Art: We are focusing on using line and developing lettering skills.
PE:  Students are engaged in basic game and coordination skills and focusing on sportsmanship and cooperation.  Tuesday is dance day.
