Girls and boys basketball teams start this week: Sarah Kerrigan and I will be coaching the girls' team; Ken Akerman will be coaching the boys' team.  Game schedules will come out later this month.
Each student began to create their own  web site last week and they were really excited about it!  The site will focus on each student's learning and how they can show what they have learned and accomplished at school.  We've just got started and will have an official web site launch later in the month.

Subjects

Math:   I'm continuing to teach some new subtraction skills that include learning about integers.
"Math is the science of patterns."
Reading:  We continue with reading a newspaper article weekly as well as reading some fables and legends.  I've started a graph which shows daily reading for the students.  Some students are reading for an hour or more each night!
Writing:  Daily journal writing continues and students are practicing writing instructions.
Tech:   Website, website, website!!!
Social Studies:   Thanks for sharing some information about your family and their immigration to Canada.  I've put a map of the world outside the class with pins showing where students' families have immigrated from.  Students begin writing a diary about coming to Canada in 1914.
Science: We will continue science activities at a later date.
Keyboarding:  We continue keyboarding in class which helps students to become better writers. Students can practice online at home at this site:   http://www.freetypinggame.net/
Art:  Students are making their own colour wheel and pencil holders.  They will learning how to mix colours.
PE:  Students continue with folk dance and basketball skills.
French:  Students continue learning simple French words and greetings. They will be learning days of the week, months, and the weather.
