This Week

What a great Jive Show on Friday!  I’m so please with the dance routines of the students as they worked very hard to develop strong routines and great costumes.  Thanks to all the parents who came to the show, I know you must be proud of your child.
Some of the salmon eggs have begun to hatch and I expect more to be hatching soon.
This week our boys and girls basketball begin.  Wish them luck!

Subjects

Math: Students are using measurements from their house to draw a scaled drawing in math time.  Last week they measured the area and volume of the new garden beds.  We’ll start working with mass later this week.
Reading:  Students are working in groups with Readers’ Theater scripts to read aloud to the class.  On Wednesdays we are working with poetry--reading and writing.
Writing:  Students are continuing to write paragraphs--we are continuing to focus on descriptive paragraphs.
Keyboarding: Keyboarding practice continues daily.   I encourage students to practice keyboarding at home at the online site we use at school.  www.freetypinggame.net
Social Studies:  Last week we started an immigration unit.  Students have created a character about a person immigrating to Canada in 1914.  They will be keeping a diary of their adventures as they learn about homesteading.
Art: Our focus in art is using colour.
PE:  We continue with dance on Tuesdays.  We will be learning some fun dances from the 60’s Students continue learning basketball skills.
French:  We have been learning about the weather and practicing simple conversations.    I also plan on teaching them a couple of songs.
