This Week
Monday is Hallowe’en and students will be dressed in great costumes.  We plan to do some Hallowe’en reading and writing in the morning; in the afternoon we’ll play some spooky games in the gym and then have little class party that will include a school-wide scavenger hunt, snacks and some class games.  Students are welcome to bring some goodies to share in the afternoon.  I’d like to take the class for a fungi walk Thursday morning at 10:20 if the weather is cooperative.
Math: We continue looking at place value and understanding number meaning.  I’m teaching some students who are interested base 5.
Reading: The school now has Reading Workshops Monday to Wednesday.  Students are grouped together to meet their reading needs.  Our group continues to focus on using the dictionary, looking at word meanings, and developing individual reading skills.
Writing:  I hope to finish the student animal writing assignment.  Hopefully the computer lab will be set up this week so we can begin keyboarding and writing on the computer.
Science. We had a fabulous time with Bob Sharp and Cate McEwan learning about carbon storage and trees.  We completed a transect in the forest identifying trees, finding height and diameter, and doing some core samples.  It was great fun! Pictures are posted on the Blog. This week I’d also like to finish the partner tree project this week.
Art: We’ll return to investigate types of lettering.
Recorder: Students are continuing to practice notes A to D and are beginning to compose their own music.   Students are welcome to take their recorder and music home to practice.
PE: Monday—jogging and fitness; Tuesday--dance; and Wednesday and Thursday are game days—volleyball is starting.
